Markets open on a record high after BJP’s landslide win in UP, Uttarakhand

Three days after the Bharatiya Janata Party registered landslide victories in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand Assembly elections, the Indian markets cheered the win, opening on a record high on Tuesday. The Sensex was up by 500 points at over 29,500 while the Nifty touched an all-time high of 9,000. The Sensex was up by 500 points at over 29,500 while the Nifty touched an all-time high of 9,000. On Saturday, March 11, the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Narendra Modi wave swept Uttar Pradesh as well as Uttarakhand. In the 403-seats UP Assembly, the BJP and its allies gained a whopping 325 seats while in the 70-seat Uttarakhand Assembly, the party won 57 seats. Meanwhile, even as the party has not emerged as the single largest party in Manipur and Goa, BJP President Amit Shah has claimed the it will stake claim to form the government in these two states too. Former defence minister Manohar Parrikar, in fact, will be taking oath as the Goa Chief Minister today.
